New Recurring Feature – Mets Minutia

Posted by JD on November 30, 2009

Welcome to the first instalment of Mets Minutia, a recurring feature that (I hope) will appear several times a week. My goal for Mets Minutia is to provide a little tidbit of Mets-related info to you. It may be obvious, or trivial, or maybe a random thought. The goal is simply to bring a little bit of Mets to your winter months.

With that in mind, here’s the inagural Mets Minutia: Angel Pagan‘s triples. As you know, Pagan lead the team with 11 triples, good for sixth on the Mets all-time leaderboard. Slots 2, 3, 4, and 5 are held by Jose Reyes and Lance Johnson holds the single-season franchise record with 21. What you may not know is that Pagan notched his 11 triples in only 343 at-bats, a rate of one triple every 31.2 at bats. That’s the highest rate of the top ten single-season triple totals. Johnson’s triple/at-bat ratio was 32.5 and Reyes’ best was 36.2. Nobody below him on the list exceeded Mookie Wilson‘s 58.7 in 1984. Had he stayed healthy, Pagan had a realistic chance to set the franchise record for triples.
