Where we endeavor to stay positive about the 2011 Mets…

Mets Minutia – 12/2/09

Posted by JD on December 2, 2009

Upon further review, yesterday’s Joe Mauer Mets Minutia was far too negative for my liking. So let’s look at a different stat, Bill James’ Runs Created. Simply stated, Runs Created (RC) was developed to estimate the number of runs a hitter contributes to his team. Mauer led the American League with 138 RC. Here’s the link to our Mets: that total would land him at third all time behind David Wright in 2007 (146) and John Olerud in 1998 (141), and just in front of Wright’s 2008 (135).

I guess that’s slightly less pessimistic, right? You might have guessed that I was firmly on the “Joe Mauer for AL MVP” bandwagon, and you’d be right. He had a fantastic season and I couldn’t resist placing it in a NY Mets framework. To further put it in perspective, Wright led the team with 96 RC last year, a cool 26 ahead of the second place finisher, Luis Castillo. Basically, one Joe Mauer almost equals two Luis Castillos. Is it just me, or does that sound weird?
