Where we endeavor to stay positive about the 2011 Mets…

Mets Minutia – 12/7/09

Posted by JD on December 7, 2009

Yesterday’s Minutia got me thinking about David Wright‘s home run history and, more specifically, who served them up. Using Baseball Reference’s Pitcher vs. Batter Index, I generated a list of pitchers who have faced Wright and sorted by home runs allowed. Brett Myers is tied for the most (four) with three others, Horacio Ramirez, Brad Penny and ex-Met Livan Hernandez (nine others, including Jamie Moyer, Ryan Madson and John Smoltz, are tied at three). Ramirez has only faced Wright 13 times, meaning that David hits homers 31% of the time they meet. Now, don’t forget that 13 plate appearances is an insignificant sample size. But wouldn’t it be nice to see the Phillies, Braves, Marlins or Nationals sign Ramirez?

And if you’re wondering, Randy Wolf has faced Wright 32 times without allowing a home run, the most of any pitcher to face Wright.
