Where we endeavor to stay positive about the 2011 Mets…

Adios, Argenis

Posted by JD on January 11, 2010

Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that the Dodgers recently signed Argenis Reyes, who spent parts of the last two seasons with the Mets. Hardly a big loss, he will be remembered in this space as having an average glove (career range factor of 4.81 compared to the league average 4.83) and a seriously below average bat (career 27 OPS+). Gurnick really captures the spirit of the signing, though. After spending a paragraph apiece on fellow signees Scott Dohmann and Nick Green, Gurnick sums up the Reyes signing as follows:

“Reyes, a 28-year-old middle infielder, played nine games for the Mets last year.”

And that’s really just about the kindest thing I can think to say, other than to wish him well in AAA Albuquerque.
