Where we endeavor to stay positive about the 2011 Mets…

Flushing Frivolity – 1/11/10

Posted by JD on January 11, 2010

I spend a fair amount of time on the interwebs reading about and researching the New York Mets. The Flushing Frivolities is a semi-regular feature in which I attempt to share some of the more minute facts I come across. And by “minute”, I often mean “meaningless” or “inconsequential”.

On this date in 1973, Wonderful Terrific Monds III was born in Fort Pierce, FL. According to the Baseball Refernce Bullpen: “His unusual name was originally given to his grandfather when, after a number of girls, his father thought it was “wonderful, just terrific” when his first son was born.” Monds would go on to play seven seasons for various minor league affiliates of the Braves, Rockies and Reds.

What does that have to do with the Mets? Absolutely nothing. I just wanted to write about someone who’s name is Wonderful Terrific, and you just don’t get that opportunity every day.
