Where we endeavor to stay positive about the 2011 Mets…

Flushing Frivolity – 1/12/10

Posted by JD on January 12, 2010

I spend a fair amount of time on the interwebs reading about and researching the New York Mets. The Flushing Frivolities is a semi-regular feature in which I attempt to share some of the more minute facts I come across. And by “minute”, I often mean “meaningless” or “inconsequential”.

On this date in 1887, the New York Metropolitans bought the contract of third baseman Dude Easterbrook. Dude would go on to appear in 108 games for the Metropolitans, batting a robust .168 for a club that would finish it’s final season in the American Association in eighth place. There’s a snarky joke in here somewhere, but I can’t think of it because I’m distracted by Easterbrook’s name. I can’t stop thinking how awesome it would be if we had a “Dude” on the 2010 Mets. Guess I just miss Lenny Dykstra…
